We choreographed Paris and Romeo's fight scene in the vault, with lots of sword slashing and punching and rolling. We worked up to the point, after they have both been disarmed, and beat each other around, at which they stand on opposite sides of the stage and draw their daggers.

We need 3 set of knee pads (Juliet, Paris, Romeo).

We need 4 pairs of leather or deerskin, brown or beige gardening gloves.

We staged Juliet and Capulet's scene in III.5. Tybalt has died, and so the only 'heir' to the Capulet house is the son Juliet needs to have. Tybalt has shamed the family, and so it is unlikely that Juliet will find a good husband. Paris, however, loves Juliet, and will still marry her, giving the Capulet house their only chance. Juliet has secretly married Romeo, who let's not forget killed Tybalt, so their's no way dad can know, and of course she refuses to marry Paris. This really upsets Capulet, and he beats his daughter. We worked hard today and left rehearsal an hour early.

We have a Friar John/Abram and a sound designer! His name s Teddy, a CTE alumni, and we're super excited that he's here!

A saga of sets -- the first Twelfth Night back in 2003
photo
Every year we make resolutions to simplify the park sets -- much of which has to be taken up and down between shows. But the best of technical intentions were often derailed by Steve Coleman's fantastic creations. His Twelfth Night set in 2003 was probably the most structurally ambitious of the outdoor Curtain sets. Still modest compared to his She Stoops to Conquer marvel for the first indoor play the Curtain company attempted (at the Throckmorton Theatre in 2002). That set had at least one furnished room only the exiting actors could actually see and mysteriously grew new bits and pieces for every performance. Breathtaking!

With a new production of Twelfth Night coming up for summer 2007, the company adds the set design talents of Sausalito painter Megan Kenyon to its Old Mill Park saga. Can't wait to see what she has in store for us!
